Prince George’s County police are investigating the arrest of one of their officers on charges of driving while intoxicated and speeding. Cpl. Derrick Neumer was arrested around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday in St. Mary’s County by Maryland State Police, his department said. He was off duty and not driving a police vehicle. Neumer, a 13-year patrolman, has had his police powers suspended while the internal investigation is ongoing.
DNA leads to arrest in laundry room sex assault
Montgomery County police say they have made an arrest in a Gaithersburg sexual assault after DNA evidence linked the suspect to the crime. Police arrested 21-year-old Christopher Johnson on Tuesday and charged him with first-degree sex offense and armed robbery. Police said Johnson followed a 28-year-old woman into a laundry room of an apartment building in the 700 block of Quince Orchard Boulevard at about 10 a.m. on Dec. 7. The suspect brandished a knife and sexually assaulted the victim. The suspect took property belonging to the victim and fled. Forensic evidence was collected and submitted to the Montgomery County crime laboratory. DNA evidence was searched against the Maryland Combined DNA Index System linking it to Johnson, of Montgomery Village.
Driver in December crash dies from injuries
A 74-year-old driver involved in a three-car crash late last year has died from his injuries, Montgomery County police said. Victor Guillermo Martinez, of Baltimore, never regained consciousness from the Dec. 16 collision on northbound Route 29, south of Greencastle Road. He died at a local hospital Tuesday. Police said the 2011 Toyota Corolla that Martinez was driving was struck from behind by a 2006 Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle. Martinez’s vehicle then struck the rear of a Mercury Mariner SUV, police said. The people in the other vehicles were not injured, police said. The investigation continues.
