In 51 days, Gov.-elect Martin O?Malley takes the oath of office, and two days later he must submit a $30 billion plus state budget.
But on Monday, the mayor of Baltimore frittered away the day the way hundreds of other Baltimoreans did ? hanging around the courthouse in the jury pool.
But O?Malley only lost a day. He was not asked to serve on any jury, and was released from duty at 4:30 p.m., spokesman Rick Abbruzzese said. This fulfills his one day of civic duty.
O?Malley, a former defense attorney and assistant prosecutor, had served on a jury four years ago in a civil case, and was elected foreman.
