NEW YORK (AP) — An upcoming exhibition at the New York Public Library explores the debate within the United States over its involvement in World War I.
The exhibition is called “Over Here: WWI and the Fight for the American Mind.”
It opens on July 28 and runs through Feb. 15.
It will examine how public relations, propaganda and mass media influenced American public opinion about the war.
It will look at key events, individuals and organizations that contributed to that public debate. They include the sinking of the RMS Lusitania and the Espionage Act of 1917.
The exhibition draws on the library’s collection. It includes the famous Uncle Sam “I Want You” Army recruitment poster and audio recordings of wartime songs and speeches.
The exhibition opens exactly 100 years after the war began.
