As Hillary Slips, O’Malley Looks to Enter

Bloomberg’s Phil Mattingly explained this morning that Hillary Clinton is slipping in the polls just as Martin O’Malley is likely to jump in the presidential race.

Watch here:

“Here is why those numbers actually matter,” said Mattingly. “It’s been a rough month, month-and-a-half for Hillary Clinton. On the news front, based on her email servers, based on the stories about the foundation. Her net favorable around general election in the same poll dropped eight points since February. Her ability to maintain those high numbers with Democrats is important primarily because one challenger has aleard entered the race, in Bernie Sanders, and another is likely to in Governor Martin O’Malley in the next two to three weeks. Her ability to insure that nobody is going to come in and inpinge on her ability to lock up this nomination is valuable at this early stage.”

Mattingly said that the Clinton campaign is focused on making “it look like she has to work for that nomination.”

A Bloomberg host followed up by mocking Clinton. “So this isn’t necessarily a coronation, Phil, but the queen is meeting with the commoners? Is that what’s happening right now?”
