UPDATE, 1:03 p.m.: Police have identified the motor scooter driver as 30-year-old Roberto Nassar. The driver was identified as 22-year-old Michael Charles Dalton, of Perkasie, Pa. Dalton is charged with failure to immediately stop vehicle at the scene of an accident involving death, failure to immediately return and remain at the scene of an accident involving death, and failure of a vehicle driver involved in an accident to report a death.
ORIGINAL POST: A scooter driver was killed after being struck by a car on Rockville Pike in an overnight crash.
Officers saw a Buick LaSabre driving on Rockville Pike dragging a scooter shortly before 1:30 a.m. Thursday, said Officer Howard Hersh, a Montgomery County police spokesman.
Police stopped the vehicle. At about the same time, someone called in a report of a struck pedestrian, Hersh said, and officers determined that the slain man had been driving the scooter.
The crash happened on Rockville Pike near Edmonston Road, Hersh said. He said charges are pending against the Buick driver, but he did not know what the charges were.
Both drivers were men, Hersh said. Police would not release any other identifying information.
