Spotify launches playlists for dogs left home alone

Spotify has created playlists to help soothe lonely animals while their owners are away.

The music streaming service launched a range of “algorithmically curated” playlists for canines, cats, iguanas, hamsters, and birds and a podcast to help calm dogs left alone. The podcast features messages of affirmation and ambient sounds.

A survey conducted by Spotify found a fourth of pet owners play music for the animals when they’re home alone. More than 40% of owners said their pets have a favorite type of music.

The survey found that most pet owners believed that music helped alleviate stress, boost happiness, and kept their animals company.

Animal physiologist Neil Evans, who worked with Spotify to develop the podcast, told CNN that providing dogs with “auditory enrichment” could help them to achieve a more “relaxed physiological state.”
