Washington blogger chronicles her JDates

Meredith Fineman is a writer, just like her father. But the subject matter? That’s a completely different story.

While her father — senior Washington correspondent and columnist for Newsweek Howard Fineman — pens columns on political superstars, the 23-year-old Fineman is writing about her love life on her blog, “Fifty First (J)Dates.

But don’t worry dad, it’s not that kind of blog.

“I’m not interested in being a sex blogger,” Fineman told Yeas & Nays. Instead she’s keeps it G-rated by only blogging about her first dates, finding each suitor on the online Jewish dating site, JDate.

“I just thought it seemed more legit than the others because I knew people who did it,” she said, explaining why she chose JDate and not Match.com or eHarmony.

Since embarking on this blogging journey she’s written about 17 dates, giving each guy a nickname — “the crunchy,” “the metrosexual,” “the Chilean” — to keep their identities a secret.

While none of the dates have been horror stories, there’s always a degree of awkwardness. For example, Fineman was appalled when one of the bachelors tried to kiss her on a first date.

“He adhered himself to my face outside of Zaytinya,” she said.

She also gives advice, such as tips on writing the perfect “about me” section on a dating site and where guys and girls can find members of the opposite sex.

Where to find girls? Fro-yo places.

“Girls are territorial about their frozen yogurt … it’s like chick crack,” Fineman writes.

Where to find guys? Family vacations.

“I met my ex-boyfriend on a cruise ship,” she writes. “He was hitting on me in a life vest.”

As for dad, while he never encouraged Fineman to follow in his footsteps, she said he’s a fan of the project.

“He finds it amusing,” she said. “He finds it funny.”
