Ann Coulter hits back at Trump for ‘wacky nut job’ taunt

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter dismissed President Trump’s tweet about her over the weekend labeling her a “wacky nut job” and accused him of being a “shallow, narcissistic conman.”

“I don’t know why he doesn’t just ignore me,” Coulter said during Forum Club of the Palm Beaches luncheon on Monday, according to a Palm Beach Post reporter. “He doesn’t mind ignoring the rest of his base.”

Coulter, who was one of Trump’s most vocal supporters during the 2016 campaign and authored In Trump We Trust has been critical of the president recently, blaming him for not taking action on his campaign promises, in particular securing funding for a border wall.

For instance, Coulter condemned Trump’s decision last month to declare a national emergency that would direct military funding toward building a border wall, and told a Los Angeles radio station afterward that “the only national emergency is that our president is an idiot.”

After failing to get Congress on board with appropriating $5.7 billion for a border wall project, Trump declared a national emergency on Feb. 15 that would direct billions of dollars from the military construction budget to construct physical barriers. The move prompted a swift legal challenge from more than a dozen states and opposition from Democrats and some members of Trump’s own party.

“It’s frustrating,” Coulter said Monday. “I can’t talk to Trump detractors because, as the subtitle to my last book indicated, they’re insane. I can’t talk to the Trump flatterers because they think as soon as it comes out of his mouth, it has happened. No, he’s an excellent talker. It’s just when it comes to doing anything that he falls down on the job.”

Trump lashed out at Coulter on Saturday, claiming he was “winning on the border.”

“Wacky Nut Job @AnnCoulter, who still hasn’t figured out that, despite all odds and an entire Democrat Party of Far Left Radicals against me (not to mention certain Republicans who are sadly unwilling to fight), I am winning on the Border,” Trump said in a series of tweets over the weekend.

“Major sections of Wall are being built…….and renovated, with MUCH MORE to follow shortly. Tens of thousands of illegals are being apprehended (captured) at the Border and NOT allowed into our Country,” he said. “With another President, millions would be pouring in. I am stopping an invasion as the Wall gets built. #MAGA.”

The House passed a resolution in February to overturn Trump’s national emergency. Although the Senate is expected to also pass such a resolution, Trump is expected to veto the measure.
