Fatal post office incident

An employee at the U.S. Postal Service distribution center in Dulles died Tuesday afternoon when she was struck by a truck pulling away from the loading dock. Katherine Newell Sowers, 49, of Leesburg, had pulled her truck into the distribution center shortly before the 3:15 p.m. incident, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. – Dan Genz

Tax cheat sentenced

Paul Millstein, of Douglas Development Corp., was sentenced to 60 days of home detention, a $2,000 fine and two years of probation on felony charges of tax evasion, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the District of Columbia.

Millstein was the latest Douglas Development employee to face criminal charges in the last year.

In April, Douglas Jemal, the flamboyant developer accused of bribing a D.C. government official, was sentenced to five years’ probation plus a $175,000 fine after being found guilty of one count of wire fraud.

Jemal’s top aide, Blake Esherick, was also convicted of wire fraud and two counts of tax evasion.

Esherick was sentenced in March to eight months in prison. – Scott McCabe

Bowie State University student missing

Prince George’s County police are asking for help in locating a Bowie State University student who has been missing since Saturday.

Police say Julian C. McCormick, 18, of the 11200 block of Laurel Grove Court in Laurel, was last seen about noon Saturday, when he left his college dorm room on the campus.

McCormick is a black male, 6 feet and 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue jean shorts and black sneakers.

McCormick was last seen driving his blue and silver 2003 Honda Civic with the temporary Maryland registration 83870A. – Daniel Fowler
