President Trump retweeted a tweet from Fox News host Sean Hannity on Friday, advertising a monologue on the “deep state” and an interview with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who has been floating the conspiracy theory this week.
“#Hannity Starts in 30 minutes with @newtgingrich and my monologue on the Deep State’s allies in the media,” Hannity tweeted, teasing his 10 p.m. ET program, “Hannity.”

Trump’s retweet brings attention to the conspiracy theory, floated by some Trump supporters like Gingrich, that government officials, behind the scenes, are working to undermine Trump’s presidency.
Early Friday, Trump complained about being the target of a “Witch Hunt,” after a Washington Post report was published late Wednesday saying the special counselor’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election has now expanded to examine whether he attempted to obstruct the probe in any way.
“I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! Witch Hunt,” he said in a tweet.
Gingrich accused the special counselor, Robert Mueller, in a series of tweets Thursday of being tip of the ‘deep state spear’ trying to bring down Trump.
