President Bush is directing federal departments and agencies to compile and post on their web sites information about earmarks approved by Congress in federal spending bills. This is something that could and should have been years ago, but the folks in the Bush White House apparently have acquired a new view on the matter since the November elections changed the partisan makeup of Congress. In any case, you can read the memo from the U.S. Office of Management and Budget here. Note that OMB Director Rob Portman’s timeline includes publication of all the earmark data gleaned from the department and agencies by March 12. HT: Matt Weigelt of FCW.com.
