Vienna police are investigating the death of an 11-month-old boy.
Police said a caregiver drove the child from Vienna to the boy’s mother in Reston; the baby was unresponsive when they arrived at the mother’s home.
The caregiver and mother called 911, and the child was taken to Reston Hospital Center, then flown to Children’s National Medical Center, said Vienna police spokesman Bill Murray. The child died at the hospital about 11:50 p.m. Thursday.
Murray said police consider the death “suspicious.” He said investigators made that determination based on “the mere fact that it’s an 11-month-old child that died.” Murray said he had no other information on the child’s medical condition or whether the boy had suffered any apparent trauma.
Murray said an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
The child’s name has not been released. Murray said detectives wanted to complete interviews with the baby’s family members before releasing the boy’s name.
