The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced on Instagram that the new son was delivered safely.
“We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz,” the couple’s Instagram revealed. “The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives.”
The son, whose name has yet to be announced, will be the seventh in line to the throne of England and the eighth great-grandchild of the reigning Queen Elizabeth II.
Markle, a retired American actress, married Prince Harry last May. Prince Harry is the son of Prince Charles and the younger brother Prince William who is in direct line to the throne.
