Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., highlighted the work of the Republican-led Congress in securing a balanced budget bill, a trade deal and a transportation spending package during the GOP weekly address Saturday.
“The first eight months of 2015 have been some of the most productive in recent memory,” said the South Dakota Republican.
Thune noted Congress has passed more than 80 bills this year, in part by uniting Democrats and Republicans.
“It’s hard to believe, but the last time the House and Senate passed a joint balanced budget resolution, Facebook hadn’t been created yet,” he said. “That was something Republicans were determined to change.”
Congress passed the first balanced budget resolution since 2001 this year, as well as a transportation bill and a controversial international trade deal.
Thune also touted the Every Child Achieves Act, an education bill which would reduce federal involvement in education.
