I knew this morning that the bus I usually take to The Examiner’s offices would be taking a detour today because of the nuclear summit. So I made sure to check ahead and see what the detour would be. Metro’s website told me I’d be re-routed from 9th Street to 11th Street:
Perfect, I thought — it will leave me just a few blocks from work.
So imagine my surprise when my bus suddenly heads for the opposite end of town without any explanation. I bailed in bumper-to-bumper traffic at 6th and M Street. Along with dozens of Metrobus refugees from other lines, I hiked downtown and around the fenced-off area, then across.
The extra exercise doesn’t bother me so much — it was only a mile walk. But if I’d known where the bus was going, I would have taken a different bus. I had specifically checked in advance to avoid getting stranded on the wrong side of the convention center, and Metro still managed to get me there.
