Van Halen’s guitar going to the Smithsonian

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History has a new set of strings to add to its collection of musical instruments thanks to rock legend Eddie Van Halen. The musician donated his Frank 2 guitar which is a replica of the famous red, white and black Frankenstein guitar that he played for more than three decades. Van Halen used the Frank 2 guitar during his 2007-08 North American tour. A spokeswoman for the Smithsonian tells us that Frank 2 will be part of the museum’s Division of Culture and the Arts and will be displayed as soon as they can find the right place for it.
