Pedestrian in critical after Seat Pleasant crash

A 22-year-old Capitol Heights man is in critical condition after he was hit by a car while crossing a street in Seat Pleasant.

Prince George’s County police said the accident happened shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday. The man crossed the eastbound lanes of Central Avenue near Addison Road, stopped at the median, then suddenly ran back into the eastbound lanes, said Cpl. Rodney Gause, a police spokesman.

A 49-year-old man driving east on Central Avenue struck the pedestrian, Gause said. Witnesses reported that the driver slowed down when he saw the pedestrian, then resumed normal speed when the pedestrian reached the median, Gause said.

Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash and the man is not expected to be charged.

The pedestrian, whose name was not released, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The crash was the second accident that left a pedestrian critically injured in Prince George’s over the weekend.
