Anthony Scaramucci touches on his sunglasses, Stephen Colbert in Internet interview

The wide-ranging interview — during which questions were fielded directly from the online audience — touched on politics, policy, sport, even why Scaramucci wore women’s sunglasses.

Scaramucci, who earlier Sunday had given his first televized interview after his shock exit from the White House to the ABC, addressed speculation he had “tricked” late-night comedian Stephen Colbert into thinking the CBS host had landed the exclusive.

Colbert on Wednesday tweeted Scaramucci would appear on his show in his first interview since leaving the White House.

“I didn’t get all the nuances and subtleties about these exclusive things,” Scaramucci said, adding that could be why he did not flourish in the top White House communications job. “There was no element of trickery there.”

He also responded to reports he wore women’s sunglasses, which were often photographed by the White House press pool.

“I didn’t realize they were women’s sunglasses. I just thought they looked halfway decent on my face,” Scaramucci joked.

Scaramucci revealed Vice President Mike Pence was one of the first people he apologized to after the incendiary interview he gave to the New Yorker, which led to his abrupt firing, was published.

Scaramucci said he was a “huge fan” of Pence.

“I genuinely care for the vice president, I think he is an extremely loyal person,” he said.

Scaramucci said he apologized to Pence first “because the vice president probably is a person that I’ve never heard say any words like that in a private or public setting.”
