Virtually every checking-related fee went up in Bankrate.com’s annual survey of non-interest checking accounts, released Monday.
Changes in select fees:
ATM FEES
— Average ATM surcharge for non-customers rose 4 percent from last year to $2.50.
— Average amount banks charge their own customers for using another company’s ATM jumped 11 percent to $1.57.
— Average total of $4.07 for a customer encountering both fees is up 7 percent from last year.
MONTHLY SERVICE FEES
— Average monthly service fee on non-interest checking accounts rose 25 percent to $5.48.
— Average balance requirement to avoid the fee is $723, up 23 percent from last year.
OVERDRAFT FEES
— Increased 1.4 percent from last year to an average $31.26.
