Baltimore City officer shot, one suspect in standoff

A Baltimore police officer was shot shortly after 2 p.m. on the city?s west side and was rushed to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said.

One suspect is in custody and another has barricaded himself in a home, according to Officer Troy Harris, a police spokesman.

The shooting happened at Lanvale and Poplar Grove streets.

Police have cordoned off numerous blocks in the area and several police helicopters are hovering overhead. Alexander Hamilton Middle School is on lockdown.

Police Commissioner Frederick Bealefeld is en route to the hospital, police said. The officer?s condition is unknown.
