More than 20,000 people plan to attend protests outside the British prime minister’s office when President Trump visits England later this year.
The Facebook page “Protest Trump’s Visit” has another 64,000 people interested in attending the protests in the fall, as of Monday morning.
“It’s just been announced: Donald Trump is coming to Britain on a state visit later this year. We don’t know when. But let’s be ready — and be prepared to take to the streets in the most incredible protest in our history,” the page’s creators, socialist author Owen Jones and the Stop Trump group, wrote on Facebook.
The event has been tentatively scheduled for Oct. 1-2 because Trump has committed to visiting, but has not specified when the trip will take place.
British Prime Minister Theresa May invited Trump to London last week while at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Trump told Piers Morgan in a recent interview that he planned to carry out a state visit in October.
“I’ll be there. She [Theresa May] just invited me. Twice. State and working. One is a state, October,” Trump told Morgan.
Trump had been scheduled to visit London in early January, but canceled it and cited former President Barack Obama’s sale of the U.S. embassy for a less as the reason.
