President Trump said Saturday that it will be a good thing when the U.S. one day has good relations with Russia again.
“I have been FAR tougher on Russia than Obama, Bush or Clinton. Maybe tougher than any other President. At the same time, & as I have often said, getting along with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing,” Trump tweeted Saturday morning. “I fully expect that someday we will have good relations with Russia again!”

Trump says he has taken a tougher stance on Russian than the last three presidents — Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton — but also believes that having a good relationship with Kremlin would be beneficial to America.
Trump’s statement was part of a Twitter tirade Saturday morning following revelations that the FBI had launched a counterintelligence investigation into him after he fired former FBI director James Comey, trying to find out if his actions were influenced by Moscow.
Trump claimed that the report in the New York Times proves that the investigation into possible collusion with Russia was opened with “no reason” and “no proof,” pointing to it as part of a “witch hunt,” a term he has long used to describe the investigation.
He said that former FBI Director James Comey, former Deputy Director of the FBI Andrew McCabe, and FBI agents Peter Strzok and Lisa Page were all fired for “very bad reasons” and “caught in the act” of trying to pin Russian interference on him.
“Wow, just learned in the Failing New York Times that the corrupt former leaders of the FBI, almost all fired or forced to leave the agency for some very bad reasons, opened up an investigation on me, for no reason & with no proof, after I fired Lyin’ James Comey, a total sleaze!” Trump tweeted.
“Lyin’ James Comey, Andrew McCabe, Peter S and his lover, agent Lisa Page, & more, all disgraced and/or fired and caught in the act. These are just some of the losers that tried to do a number on your President. Part of the Witch Hunt.”

Mueller’s team, which took over that and the criminal investigation into Russian election interference, is still investigating possible collusion in the 2016 presidential election between Russia and the Trump campaign. Under the recently flipped Democratic House, the new House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., says the committee will also open its own independent investigation.
During the G-20 summit in Argentina toward the end of November, Trump abruptly canceled his scheduled meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin two days before it was supposed to take place.
Trump claimed he canceled the meeting because of Russia refusing to release Ukrainian Navy ships and sailors who were captured during a maritime confrontation.
