After photos of his abs appeared on the gossip site TMZ and then he voluntarily posed for GQ (this time with his shirt on), Rep. Aaron Schock is ready for another hot, young Republican to get all the attention on Capitol Hill.
“I am ready to pass the torch,” he told Yeas & Nays. “So if there’s another young Republican, I’m ready to give him that title.”
A potential contender?
Rep. Jeff Flake, the 46-year-old Arizona Republican who spent a week in August on a deserted island in the Pacific Ocean.
“He and I see each other quite often in the members’ gym in the morning,” Schock said. “So he’s in quite good shape.”
Schock was on hand at Tuesday’s GQ party, which was promoting the magazine’s 50 Most Powerful People in D.C. list. The list was heavily Democratic, but the Illinois freshman said he could see Republicans getting back on it sooner rather than later. “If we win back the majority in 2010, I would argue that every Republican’s power stature would rise significantly,” Schock said.
