Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was flipped off by three New York Yankee fans at Yankee Stadium Sunday night after the Texas senator attended the game to support the Houston Astros.
Cruz, who had turned around in his seat to wave at fans, was instead greeted with jeers and the middle finger. A photo of the exchange showed three men pointing their middle fingers up at Cruz and a fourth with his thumb down.

The move was supported by fellow New York fans and critics of the Texas conservative on social media after photos of the incident and a selfie Cruz took at the game went viral. Some New York fans sounded off in the comments, praising the move as giving the senator a “proper Yankee Stadium welcome.”
Cruz’s Astros ended up winning the game, which secured their slot in the World Series. The Philadelphia Phillies secured the other slot Sunday, after defeating the San Diego Padres. It is the first time that Philadelphia has made the World Series in 13 years and the fourth time in six years for the Astros.

Other politicians and notable political figures have been booed at sporting events recently, including first lady Jill Biden, who was reportedly booed at a Philadelphia Eagles game. However, it’s unclear how prevalent the booing was because one of the videos that was picked up on social media was doctored, according to Snopes.
Former President Donald Trump was also famously booed at the 2019 World Series between the Washington Nationals and the Houston Astros.
