Spain honoring D.C. chef Jose Andres

Jose Andres, the Washington-area restauranteur and James Beard Award-winning chef, is being awarded Spain’s highest culture honor: the Order of Arts and Letters medallion. Andres grew up near Barcelona.

Thanks to Jaleo, Andres is credited for the popularity of the tapas — or “small dishes” — concept in the U.S. Andres hosts the PBS series “Made in Spain,” and on TV’s “Iron Chef,” he beat grillmaster Bobby Flay.

Andres’ other restaurants in D.C. include Cafe Atlantico, Oyamel and Zatinya.
