Moammar Gadhafi’s security forces are dressing like civilians and driving civilian vehicles attempting to adapt their fighting to avert NATO air-strikes, according to NATO officials and reports from the region.
Libyan opposition leaders voiced their anger at NATO Tuesday, saying the coalition, which took the lead from the U.S. this past week, has failed them. Despite promises from NATO to make Misrata a number one priority, fighting there intensified Wednesday and civilian deaths are mounting, opposition leaders say.
BBC reporters in the region reported Gadhafi forces in Misrata are blending in with the civilian population.
On Wednesday, France announced it would open the sea corridor to let supplies and opposition forces into the city of Misrata. The corridors had been previously closed to stop Gadhafi forces from utilizing them.
On Tuesday, Brigadier Gen. Mark van Uhm, head of NATO operations in Libya told reporters in a briefing that “the assessment is that we have taken out 30 per cent of military capacity of pro-Gadhafi forces.”
