Accused cannibal charged with murder nearly three years after confessing


A Michigan man is facing first-degree murder charges almost three years after he confessed to killing a college student and allegedly eating a part of his body.

Mark Latunski, 53, reportedly confessed to murdering 25-year-old Kevin Bacon after meeting the hairstylist on the app Grindr on Christmas Eve in 2019. Latunski was charged with first-degree murder in Shiawassee County Court on Wednesday.

The court opted for the charge as opposed to second-degree murder or manslaughter. Latunski pleaded guilty to one count of homicide open murder and one count of disinterment and mutilation of a dead body in September. Latunski underwent several psychological evaluations while in police custody and was ultimately determined competent to stand trial by a judge in October 2020.

Police found Bacon’s naked corpse hanging from his ankles in the basement of Latunski’s Bennington Township, Michigan, home on Dec. 28, 2019, after Bacon’s family reported him missing on Christmas Eve. Latunski confessed to police upon their discovery that he had killed Bacon by stabbing him and slitting his throat. A portion of the genitals had been removed and allegedly consumed by Latunski, court documents read.
