Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is set to cameo in an upcoming production of William Shakespeare’s “Merchant of Venice.”
According to ABC News, Ginsburg will play a judge in the trial of moneylender Shylock.
The show will be held this July in Venice, Italy, and will be commemorating the 500th anniversary of the city’s Jewish ghetto.
Ginsburg is not stranger to the stage. In 2014, she and other D.C. staples — including Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-D.C., and MSNBC’s Chris Matthews — appeared in an Arena Stage production of “Our War,” a series of monologues about the Civil War.
“It’s very moving, but I said I cannot do a North Carolina accent, so I will have to do it in my Brooklyn accent, and they said that would be OK,” she told Politico at the time.
Ginsburg and the late Justice Antonin Scalia, were great friends despite their ideological differences, and were known to attend the opera together.
