Crime History: ‘COPS’ makes TV debut

On this day, March 11, in 1989, the television show “COPS” made its debut on Fox.

The show was an early reality-television program and has become one of the longest-running shows in history. The program documents the work of law enforcement officers by having camera crews follow them on patrol and solving cases. The show is unscripted.
