First, it appeared hard to believe that any president could vacation as much or spend as many nights away from the White House as former President Barack Obama.
Then, former President Donald Trump topped him with visits to his resorts in New Jersey and Florida, especially during the traditional summer and Christmas breaks.

Now, according to the Republican National Committee’s count, President Joe Biden is on a path to beat both.
So far, Biden has spent 39% of his days away from the White House, mostly in his home state of Delaware. Trump averaged 26% of his time away at his resort homes or Camp David.

The RNC’s Jacob Schneider produced a colorful chart of vacations that he shared with reporters, and added:
“Since taking office, Biden has spent 282 days — 40% of his presidency — on vacation, including 191 days in Delaware and 66 days at Camp David.
“In fact, Biden’s incessant vacationing outpaces virtually every other president in modern history. And it’s not just vacations; Biden has also done far fewer press conferences and interviews than any of his immediate predecessors.”

Of course, all presidents technically work during their breaks, and their staffs have always made that case. Biden’s team has been no different.
For example, when CNN reported last year that Biden had spent a quarter of his presidency on vacation, the White House told the cable, “Presidents of the United States are constantly on the job, regardless of their location — whether they’re on a state visit overseas or just 100 miles from the White House for a short trip to Wilmington, DE. And as all Americans can agree, it’s important for leaders to avoid becoming ensconced in Washington, D.C.”
