Donald Trump will no longer block certain reporters and news outlets from covering his campaign events, ending a year-long media blacklist that began early in his presidential bid.
Trump campaign officials told CNN on Wednesday that outlets like the Washington Post, Buzzfeed, Politico and the Daily Beast will have their access to rallies and other major campaign events reinstated beginning this week.
“I figure they can’t treat me any worse!” the Republican presidential hopeful told CNN.
The decision comes several weeks after Trump’s running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, told reporters he was working with Trump to eliminate the ban, which began July of last year when the candidate revoked the Des Moines Register’s credentials after the paper published an editorial calling on him to end his primary campaign.
In addition to Pence, Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, was said to be pressuring him to end the restrictions against news outlets, especially as Trump continued to publicly criticize Hillary Clinton for her own lack of transparency and press access.
Trump has said he would not institute a similar ban in the White House press briefing room if he is elected president.
