Clinton wins Virginia early

Hillary Clinton scored her first win of Super Tuesday in Virginia, beating Bernie Sanders.

The outcome comes as no surprise, as the former secretary of state has led in most polls in the commonwealth by better than 20 points.

The South has been described as Clinton’s “firewall,” with huge majorities of African-American voters backing the Democratic front-runner over Sanders. Clinton also had the support of Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a longtime Clinton family confidante.

Clinton won Georgia Tuesday night and won South Carolina Saturday by comfortable margins.

The eve of Super Tuesday Clinton made two campaign stops in Virginia, in both Fairfax and Norfolk, during which the governor campaigned for her along with Sen. Tim Kaine and Congressmen Bobby Scott and Gerry Connolly.
