MoCo school board to tackle budget

The Montgomery County school board has its hands full. The superintendent, Jerry Weast, is retiring this June after a 12-year reign. The county council won’t show them the money, and the state board of education is sort of mad at them. Suffice to say, the Montgomery school board won’t be discussing unicorns and lollipops at Tuesday’s all-day meeting.

Instead, they’ll be hunkering down for a budget work session, reviewing Weast’s budget proposal and going department by department to decide what the board will propose to county council on March 1. The board expects to approve a budget by Feb. 14 to shuffle forward to Ike Leggett and the gang.

Interested? The public meeting starts at 10 a.m. at the Carver Educational Services Center in Rockville (map). You can also tune in to Comcast Channel 34, Verizon FIOS Channel 36, or RCN Channel 88. or watch the livestream online.
