NEW YORK (AP) — New York City’s Downtown Alliance is launching a grant program to support Lower Manhattan retailers, restaurants and service providers affected by Superstorm Sandy.

The grants will be awarded to qualifying businesses in Flood Zone A, below Chambers Street.

The Downtown Alliance has donated the first $1 million to the fund, and is seeking matching contributions.

The alliance will be promoting downtown shopping and dining with holiday advertising and consumer guides. It’s also decorating the area with 199 shooting stars and star clusters.
