House approves new liquor billboard ad regs

In the wake of a decree loosening restrictions on liquor billboard ads, the Virginia House has passed a bill that would allow alcohol companies to advertise on billboards in some places in the commonwealth.

The Lamar Advertising Company sued the state last September, arguing that a regulation limiting alcohol ads was unconstitutional. Citing recent Supreme Court cases, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli advised Gov. Bob McDonnell to stop enforcing the regulation.

But the House signed off on new regulations Wednesday that would allow liquor billboards in commercial or industrial areas, but not agricultural or residential ones, according to the Associated Press.
