Biden documents scandal sparks concern over why president’s campaign purged tax forms

Growing questions over President Joe Biden’s classified documents scandal have sparked concern over why the president’s tax forms were quietly removed from his campaign’s website.

Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a special counsel on Thursday to investigate Biden’s handling of the materials, which were found on four occasions between November 2022 and January at the Penn Biden Center think tank and Biden’s Delaware home. The controversy has led to heightened scrutiny over Biden’s finances from Republicans, who are raising concerns over his campaign scrubbing links to his tax forms from 2016 to 2018.

“This is probably one of the most corrupt families in the history of our country,” Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX), referring to the Bidens, told the Washington Examiner. “Hunter is obviously as corrupt as they could get. They’re not going to want to see some of these things get exposed.”

Links for Biden’s tax forms from 2016 to 2018 now direct to a page for people to donate to Democrats through the software ActBlue, even though his 2019 tax forms are still linked. This change appears to have been made around July 2022, according to a Washington Examiner review of the Wayback Machine, an internet archive website.

“Is he doing something illegal by taking his tax documents off?” asked Nehls, a new member of the House Judiciary Committee. “No, but the American people aren’t stupid either.”

House Republicans have vowed to launch a sweeping investigation into the Biden family, including Hunter Biden and his business dealings in Ukraine and China. The University of Pennsylvania, which houses the Penn Biden Center, notably earned roughly $70 million between 2013 and mid-2019 from Chinese banks, corporations, and other Chinese entities, with 40% coming from anonymous donors, according to federal records.

Between 2018 and 2019, Hunter Biden lived at the president’s Wilmington house, where the president stored classified documents in his garage, according to government records on the younger Biden’s abandoned laptop.

Biden’s 2019 federal financial disclosure form to the Office of Government Ethics, which lists his assets, is not available on his campaign’s website, the Washington Examiner found. His 2020 disclosure is still viewable on the website.

“It is one thing to be one of the least transparent presidents in modern history, but it’s another to be a complete and total hypocrite,” a senior Republican official told the Washington Examiner.

In the wake of the documents scandal, House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) and House Republicans have demanded the White House release visitor logs for both the Biden think tank and his home. Biden used the think tank as a private office between 2017 and early 2021.

The White House said no visitor logs exist for the think tank or home.

“It may take congressional investigations, oversight, and finally some accountability, but the American people will get the truth about Biden Inc. and the influence peddling happening in the Biden household,” said the GOP official.

The White House declined a request for comment, referring the Washington Examiner to the Democratic National Committee, which operates Biden’s campaign website.

The DNC did not reply.
