Having matched the program record for victories in a season, Maryland (20-3) is back in the Elite Eight for the first time since 2005 when it won the national championship. The Terrapins have won 13 games in a row, but they face no small task against Creighton (16-1-2), which hasn’t lost on the road in 15 matches and boasts an overall 15-game unbeaten streak.
The two teams last met in the third round of the 2004 tournament, a game Maryland won in a 5-4 penalty kick shootout following a scoreless draw.
Maryland defender Omar Gonzalez and Bluejays midfielder Andrei Gotsmanov (10 goals) were both named this week to the 15-player list of semifinalists for the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy, given to the NCAA’s player of the year.
