Four progressive Democrats were named to the House Oversight Committee Tuesday night, according to multiple reports.
The four new Democratic members, Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, and Ro Khanna of California, are all members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
With the now Democrat-controlled House, the Oversight Committee will act as an even stronger check on the Trump administration.
Three of the four newly selected members of the committee are freshman members of Congress.
The three congresswomen have been particularly critical of President Trump, and most recently, Tlaib made headlines when she called Trump a “motherfucker” when calling for his impeachment.
Democrats have pledged to open several investigations into the Trump administration after taking back a majority in the House.
Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., said that he is excited about the addition of the progressive Democrats on the committee.
“If I based the choices going on the committee based on what people said or their reputations or whatever, I probably wouldn’t have a committee,” Cummings told Politico. “I am excited — there were a lot of people that wanted to come on our committee.”
