Oh – hi! Hillary Clinton stops by the briefing room

“I successfully avoided this room for eight years,” Clinton said.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was the surprise guest in the White House briefing room today. She’s been in talks with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Afghan President Hamid Karzai, and said she is seeing better cooperation from the two leaders in dealing with the unrest in both their countries.

“I think seeing the two countires as connected geographically as they are and in this common struggle against al Qaida and the Taliban as their enemies has given us the flexibility to move more agiley than we have before,” she said.

Clinton met trilaterally with both leaders ahead of their individual and collective (conjoined?) meetings with President Obama this afternoon. She expressed regret for the US airstrikes in Afghanistan that caused civilian casualities.
