The Chinese government invited White House senior advisers Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, to visit the country later this year, according to multiple reports Tuesday.
It’s not clear whether President Trump was invited or if the visit to the world’s most populous nation could serve as a step for Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping to meet again.
The White House has not disclosed whether the couple has accepted the invitation or details of the possible trip, according to Bloomberg.
Jinping extended a verbal invitation for Trump’s daughter and son-in-law to visit him while he was stateside visiting the president at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., earlier this spring, which served as the two leaders’ inaugural meeting.
Since that time, Kushner has met with Chinese Ambassador Cui Tiankai, while Ivanka Trump attended the Lunar New Year celebration at the Chinese Embassy.
Kushner and Trump recently hosted U.S. Ambassador to China Terry Branstad to dinner at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., last Sunday. Branstad, who most recently served as Iowa’s Republican governor, has known Jinping for three decades. He is expected to travel to China next week.
Kushner will travel to Jerusalem and Ramallah on Wednesday to talk with Israeli and Palestinian leaders about possible next steps in achieving a peace deal.
