Boutique agency offers solutions for enhancing life

For Kerem Ulken, life comes before business.

As the president of Enhanca, a marketing and design firm in Baltimore, Ulken says his first priority is to provide life-enhancing business solutions. “If we can enhance life, then better business will follow,” he said. “That?s our main ideology.”

Ulken founded the company in 2004 with business partner Steven Yu. “I like to do a lot of different things, all different media, and I wanted to start a company that could bring that all together,” Ulken said. “We wanted to become a full spectrum marketing agency.”

Although the company consists of only five employees, it hasn?t stopped them from landing clients like Centerstage, the Peabody Institute and Ixia Restaurant. Clients seem to turn to Enhanca when they want the hip side of marketing, Ulkan said. “We have a sensibility towards all kinds of things because we are involved in all sorts of things,” Ulken said of himself and his partner. “We?re both from [Maryland Institute College of Art], we have different ethnic backgrounds, we like to paint. We?ve both worked at Internet companies. I produce music myself as well.”

Dean Alexander, a commercial photographer, enlisted the services of Enhanca to develop his Web site three years ago and hasn?t had a regret since. “My challenge in the past has been finding people that are great technically as well as having a great aesthetic sense,” Alexander said. “When I went in and spoke with Kerem, he knew just what I wanted, he took the feeling of what I wanted and made that better. And he has done that over and over again.”

“What we would like to achieve [as a company in the future] is to reach out and become involved in projects that make a difference, projects where we can see that our creative suggestions or directions made a difference,” Ulken said. “We want to be known as the creative marketing agency that gets involved in all aspects of life.”
