The FOX Business show Stossel has turned the classic “man on the street” interview into “loser on the street.”
The program asked random individuals walking about Times Square whether they thought Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton made a given remark. The statements read to the people were all Trump quotes, many of which he said before the current presidential race, and all of which made him sound like more of a Democrat than a Republican. As such, the interviewees had a mistaken guess most of the time.
This isn’t the first trick pulled on U.S. adults about Trump and the history of his political beliefs. In September, the Huffington Post teamed with YouGov to ask people if they agreed with a given policy belief shared by both Trump and a Democrat (President Obama, Clinton or Secretary of State John Kerry). The survey first attributed the position to a Democrat and polled it, and then attributed the position to Trump and asked the same question.
Though the samples were small, the poll found that Republican respondents were more likely to agree with a Democratically-held position if Trump said it instead of the Democrat.
