Kamala Harris lands book deal amid 2020 speculation

Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., who has been mentioned as a possible 2020 contender for the White House, has landed a book deal with Penguin Press.

The publisher announced Harris’ book, “The Truths We Hold: An American Journey,” would be published Jan. 8, 2019.

Harris was said to be shopping around a book to a number of New York publishers earlier this year. The Daily Beast, after obtaining a copy of the book proposal, pointed out in March that Harris had a history of publishing a book before launching a campaign. In 2009, she wrote Smart on Crime before she was elected at California attorney general.

Scott Moyers, the vice president and publisher of Penguin Press, told the New York Times that Harris’ backstory was especially compelling.

Harris has remained quiet about a potential 2020 bid for the White House despite rampant speculation she will make a bid.
