Chelsea Clinton successfully sought her mother’s help in January 2012 when an unnamed “friend” in London needed a visa to travel to the U.S. for a consulting job.
According to deleted emails recovered by the FBI and published Thursday by the State Department, Hillary Clinton’s staff worked quickly to ensure Chelsea Clinton’s friend got the visa he needed even though the London embassy had rejected his application.
“I was actually on the phone with my friend … who is distraught about his current visa conundrum (ie talking about something firmly in your world!),” Chelsea Clinton wrote to her mother, Huma Abedin and Cheryl Mills, two of Hillary Clinton’s closest aides.
She said her friend had been rejected by the consulate due to a “miscommunication,” and asked if any of the three could “help” him.
“I’ll check and see what’s possible,” Mills said.
Another aide soon replied to inform Chelsea Clinton that she would reach out to the London office “to make sure his appointment is timely,” given that the former first daughter had mentioned the fact that her friend had already booked a flight to the U.S. despite not having a visa.
The Clintons have spent months denying allegations that they ever provided special favors to friends or donors while Hillary Clinton served as secretary of state.
Chelsea Clinton’s request for a friendly favor was published Thursday among 1,250 pages of deleted emails.
