Petraeus forecasts violent summer in Afghanistan

Top US Commander in Afghanistan Gen. David Petraeus told the Associated Press that violence is expected to intensify this summer beyond what troops experienced last year.

“Many intelligence estimates say that it will be as violent or perhaps even

more violent” as the same period of 2010, Petraeus said from his office in

Kabul.

He will be leaving for Washington to testify on Capitol Hill next week.

He also said extra forces deployed by Obama made advances but described

those gains as “fragile and reversible.”
