Bus in Mexico flips, killing 15 and injuring 47

A bus carrying holiday travelers in Mexico flipped while traveling along a rural road, killing 15 and injuring 47, Mexican authorities said.

Among the 15 killed were four children, prosecutors in Mexico’s Pacific coast state of Nayarit, where the tragedy occurred, said, NBC News reported. The cause of the crash is currently unknown and under investigation, but the outlet noted that previous, similar accidents were caused by speeding, bad weather, poor highway conditions, or poor maintenance of rental buses. Friends and relatives will often combine resources to pay for a bus to go on vacation with.

A video purporting to show the aftermath of the crash shows the roof of the bus taken completely off, and casualties lying around the wreckage.

Of the 47 injured, 45 are being treated in a hospital. Their conditions were not made immediately clear.
