VDOT suspends lane closures during holidays

The Virginia Department of Transportation is suspending lane closures for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

The department says it will open temporarily closed lanes Tuesday and will do the same on Dec. 31 until noon Jan. 2.

Also, there will be no HOV restrictions on interstates 95, 395 or 66 or the Dulles Toll Road..

Long-term construction zones with concrete barriers and orange barrels will remain in place.

There are, however, some exceptions:

» The Woodrow Wilson Bridge project will be open from 3 p.m. today until noon Wednesday. There will be periodic 20-minute traffic halts on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge on Wednesday and Thursday nights. No lanes on the bridge will be closed from noon Dec. 28 until noon Jan. 2.

» The northbound right lane of Route 1/Jefferson Davis Highway in Prince William County will be closed three-quarters of a mile north of Russell Road from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
