WHO: Straight Up AmeriCorps
WHAT: To meet its obligation for federal matching grants, Straight Up AmeriCorps in Eureka, Calif., is sponsoring a “Give Back Massage Day” and providing certified massage therapists so local employers can offer workers 15-minute back massages during their breaks. It’s also holding a “Day of Caring” at the Manila Community Center to get people ready for work.
WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: The federal matching grant program is supposed to “create a ready, willing and capable work force that will be able to meet the needs of our community’s most promising areas of opportunity for economic and work force development.” Is massage really that promising?
