CBS blasted on Twitter for including transgender rights in Ukrainian war coverage

Amid coverage of Ukrainians fighting Russian troops, bombings, and civilian deaths, CBS opted to cover the plight of transgender people in Ukraine, summoning frustration from Twitter users.

On Tuesday, CBS published an article on the struggle of a biological male who identifies as a transgender female who cannot leave Ukraine, describing the situation as “a war within a war.”

“Transgender acceptance in Ukraine is not widespread, and changing legal documents to match gender requires a long process with psychiatric examinations. CBS News spoke with one woman in Kyiv who is now battling a ‘war within a war’ amid Russia’s invasion,” CBS wrote on Twitter.

“This is not a very rainbow-friendly place,” Zi Faámelu told CBS. “Lives for trans people are very bleak here.”

Twitter users immediately criticized the network for delivering what they considered to be tone-deaf reporting.

“The West: My God, the Russians just walked over the Ukrainian border, democracy is in danger! CBS News: ACKSHUALLY, the greatest danger is that Ukrainian men who say they are women are not treated as women often enough,” the Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro wrote.

Second Amendment advocate Dana Loesch called the move “Clownery.”

“Ukraine is cancelled,” podcast host and editor Stephen L. Miller tweeted.

While CBS covered transgender acceptance in the war-torn country, seven civilians, including three children, were killed in a rocket strike in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
