A top Democrat on the Senate Homeland Security Committee says President Trump’s policy towards Syria needs to be more informed than what he views on television.
“First of all, our Syria policy has to be something that is informed by more than whatever the president watched on TV that night,” Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., told KABC. “Our Syria policy has to also be articulated in a way that is a little more concise and precise than a tweet at 3:00 in the morning.”
The California senator spent the past week visiting American troops in Iraq and touring Syrian refugee camps.
Harris says the experience reinforced her views on the need for a more coherent and consistent policy towards Syrian refugees.
“When I think about that in the context of a policy we have in our country that says we’re going to shut our border to these refugees mostly because of their religion, I am offended and disturbed as I was before if not more so,” Harris said.
